What attendance should and should not be used for
You want to know who started work.
That is what this is for. A field team has no door to walk through, so the punch is the only honest record of a day beginning. Everything after that is calling data, which measures the work rather than the attendance.
You are tempted to track people all day.
Do not. Continuous tracking changes the relationship with the team far more than it improves the reporting, and it will be resented long after the novelty of the map has worn off. A punch at the start and end is enough for the question actually being asked.
You need proof for payroll disputes.
Keep the timestamp and the location of the punch. That is the record that settles a disagreement about a day worked, and it settles it in either direction, which is what makes it fair to have.

Why does attendance need a selfie?
