Excel and CSV lead upload

The list you already own is sitting in a file that nobody can call from.

Every business has an Excel file of enquiries that has never been called properly. With Telodial, the telecalling CRM, that file becomes a calling session in about five minutes.

Import an Excel or CSV file, map your columns once, and the whole list is dialable records with a source tag. Repeated numbers merge into the record that already exists.

Excel and CSV lead upload in the Telodial app

How do I upload leads from Excel and start calling them?

In Telodial you import the Excel or CSV file, match your columns to the fields on the lead record once, and the whole list becomes callable records with a source tag attached. Numbers that already exist are matched and merged into the record that holds their history, so an old customer enquiring again appears as one person with one story rather than two half records. Once the import finishes, the list is a list like any other: open it and start an auto dialer session, or assign it round robin across the team so each caller gets their own share. Because the source tag survives every status change, you can later compare what that file produced against your other lead sources on closed business rather than on volume. A file of a few thousand rows takes minutes, and the mapping is remembered for the next import.

  • Excel, CSV, a pasted column of numbers, or a shared file
  • Column mapping done once and remembered
  • Existing numbers merge instead of duplicating
  • The imported list dials straight away, or splits across the team
How it works

Step by step

  1. 1

    Pick the file

Excel or CSV, from the phone or shared into the app from another app.

Excel and CSV lead upload: Pick the file
  2. 2

    Match the columns once

Name, number and whatever else the file carries, mapped onto your own fields and remembered for next time.

  3. 3

    Assign it and call it

Keep the list yourself or split it round robin, then start dialing.

What you get

Excel and CSV lead upload, in detail

Your columns, not ours

Map name, number, city, budget or anything else onto the fields you defined. Nothing has to be reformatted before importing.

Duplicates merge

A number that already exists keeps its history and gains the new information, instead of splitting one customer across two records.

A source tag on arrival

Every import can be tagged, so months later you can still tell which file or campaign a customer came from.

Dial it immediately

The list is callable the moment the import finishes, either by one caller or split round robin across the team.

Paste when there is no file

A column of numbers copied from a message or a portal can be pasted straight in.

Export back out

What goes in can come out, filtered however you like, subject to the export permission you set.

What callers and owners tell us

I had written off our old enquiry list as dead. Filtering it and calling it back over two weeks brought in more than that month of new leads did.
Pramod S.Owner, flooring showroom, NashikAug 2026
Our old system had thirty fields and my team filled in two. This one has the four that matter and they fill in all four.
Nikhil W.Operations lead, AurangabadMay 2026
The thing that sold my callers was that nothing extra was asked of them. Same phone, same SIM, one sheet after the call. Nobody had to learn a computer.
Meenal K.Telecalling manager, NashikJul 2026

Excel and CSV lead upload: what people ask

How do I upload leads from Excel and start calling them?

What file formats can I import?

Excel and CSV files, or a pasted column of numbers when there is no file. Files can also be shared into the app from email or a messaging app on the phone.

Will importing create duplicate leads?

No. A number that already exists in your account is matched and merged into that record, so the history stays in one place and the caller sees one story rather than two.

How large a list can I import?

Lists of several thousand rows import in minutes. There is no per-lead charge, so the size of your list does not change what you pay.

Can I import into a specific status?

Yes. An imported list can land in the status you choose, which is how teams separate a cold purchased-style list from live enquiries.

Can two callers work one imported list?

Yes. Split it round robin at import, and each caller works their own share with no risk of the same person being called twice.

Getting a messy spreadsheet in without making two of everybody

Updated 28 June 2026

Before you import anything

Your sheet has grown its own columns over two years.

Map them rather than renaming them. Rewriting a working sheet to match somebody import format is how a migration stalls on a Friday. Mapping your columns once keeps the sheet as it is and moves the work to the tool.

The same customer appears three times.

Match on the number, not the name. Names are spelled differently every time they are typed. The phone number is the only field that reliably identifies the same person, which is why merging should key on it.

You are about to import forty thousand rows.

Import a hundred first. A small import shows you what your columns actually contain, which is rarely what the header claims. Fixing that on a hundred rows is a coffee break; fixing it on forty thousand is a weekend.

What people ask about importing

Will importing create duplicate leads?

Not if numbers are matched and merged rather than appended. That is the behaviour to test deliberately before a big import: bring in a small file containing a number you already have and confirm you end up with one record carrying both histories.

What columns do I actually need?

A phone number is the only one that is genuinely required. Everything else, name, source, city, budget, whatever your business tracks, is useful and optional. A tool that demands a fixed set of fields is asking you to reshape your business around its form.

What about the extra fields my sheet has?

Map them to custom fields rather than dropping them. The columns a business has invented for itself are usually the ones carrying the actual sales knowledge, and losing them in a migration is losing years of context.

How do I import without stopping the team calling?

Import into the same list they are already working and let assignment do the rest. There is rarely a reason to pause calling for a migration, and a pause is what makes people go back to the spreadsheet.

What this rests on

  • The import behaviour described, including matching on the number, is how Telodial handles a file.
  • The advice about test imports is general practice rather than anything specific to our tool.

What this page does not claim

  • This is a page about our own import. Test the duplicate behaviour yourself on a small file rather than taking our word for it, whichever tool you use.

Worth quoting

  • A phone number is the only genuinely required field in a lead import.
  • Duplicate prevention should key on the number, because names are spelled inconsistently.
  • Importing a hundred rows first reveals what your columns actually contain.
  • Custom columns a business invented usually carry its real sales knowledge and should be mapped, not dropped.
  • A migration that requires the team to stop calling is a migration people abandon.
