Caller ID from your own records

An unknown number rings and the caller answers with no idea who it is.

The ten seconds before you say hello decide how the next ten minutes go. With Telodial, the telecalling CRM, an incoming number arrives with your own record attached.

Name, lead status and the last remark on the incoming call screen, drawn from your own data rather than from a public directory.

Caller ID from your own records in the Telodial app

What does caller ID mean in a telecalling CRM?

In Telodial caller ID means your own records, not a crowd-sourced directory of strangers. When a number that exists in your leads or customers calls in, the incoming call screen shows the name you gave them, their current lead status and the last remark anyone wrote, before the phone is answered. That turns a cold pickup into a continuation: the caller already knows this is the buyer waiting on a loan decision, or the customer whose renewal is due. Setting Telodial as the phone default dialer is what makes this work on every incoming call rather than only inside the app, and the same setting is what brings the after-call sheet to calls that were not started from a list. Nothing is looked up externally and nothing about your customers is shared with anyone: the context comes from data your business already holds.

  • Name, lead status and last remark on the incoming call screen
  • Drawn from your own records, never a public directory
  • Works on every call once set as the default dialer
  • Nothing about your customers is shared externally
How it works

Step by step

  1. 1

Set the app as the phone dialer

One tap in the guided setup. Ordinary calling behaves exactly as before.

Caller ID from your own records: Set the app as the phone dialer
  2. 2

    Incoming calls arrive with context

Name, status and last remark on the call screen, over the lock screen.

  3. 3

    Close the loop after answering

The same two-tap sheet applies to incoming calls, so inbound enquiries are recorded like outbound ones.

What you get

Caller ID from your own records, in detail

Answer knowing who it is

The buyer who called in March gets a caller who knows it, which is most of what people mean by good service.

The last remark, not just a name

A name is a label. The last thing that was said is context, and it fits on the same screen.

Works over the lock screen

The context appears on the full-screen incoming call, so nobody has to unlock and search first.

Your data, not a directory

Nothing is looked up externally, so nothing about your customers leaves your account.

Missed calls carry actions

A missed-call notification offers one-tap call-back and WhatsApp, so the lead is answered before anyone is free.

Optional, like everything else

Teams that do not want the app as the default dialer still get the in-app features; this one simply stays off.

What callers and owners tell us

We ran the team on a shared Excel sheet for four years. The sheet was never wrong at 10 am and never right by 6 pm. Now the status changes when the call ends, so what I open at night is what actually happened.

Our old system had thirty fields and my team filled in two. This one has the four that matter and they fill in all four.

No virtual number, no per-minute bill, no telephony contract to sign. My accountant understood the switch faster than I did.

Quotes come from customers who agreed to be named this way, shared on WhatsApp or on calls, and trimmed only for length. We publish no star rating or review count, because we will not show a number we cannot show you the source of. Last checked September 2026.

Caller ID from your own records: what people ask

Is this like a public caller ID app?

No. Telodial shows what your own business already knows about a number. It does not identify strangers, and it does not upload your contacts to a shared directory.

Do I have to make it my default phone app?

Only for this feature and the after-call sheet on non-app calls. Everything else works either way, and ordinary calling is unchanged when you do.

What shows up for an unknown number?

Nothing beyond the number itself, and the after-call sheet then offers to save it as a new lead in one tap.

Does it block spam calls?

It is not a spam-blocking service. It tells you who your own customers are; screening unknown numbers is a different product and we do not claim it.

Does it work on dual SIM?

Yes. The context appears whichever SIM the call arrives on, and a default business SIM can be set for outgoing calls.

Knowing who is calling before you pick up, from your own records

Why your own data beats a crowd database

An existing customer rings in.

Show their record, not their name. A name alone tells you nothing you could not have guessed. The stage, the last remark and the pending follow-up are what let somebody answer the call already knowing what it is about.

You want to identify unknown numbers.

Expect less than the advertising suggests. Crowd-sourced identification is guesswork built from other people address books, and it is wrong often enough to embarrass you. Your own records are the ones you can rely on.

Your number is being marked as spam.

Look at abandoned calls and redial frequency. Reputation damage almost always traces back to calls nobody was ready to take, or to the same number being redialed too often. Fix the cause; the label follows.

What people ask about caller identification

How is this different from a caller ID app?

A caller ID app guesses from a shared database of other people contacts. This reads your own customer records, so it is right when it says something and silent when it does not know, which is the behaviour you want on a business phone.

Why does the record matter more than the name?

Because answering a call already knowing the stage, the last thing discussed and what was promised is the difference between a useful conversation and asking a returning customer to explain themselves again.

Can I stop my number being flagged as spam?

Reduce what causes it: do not leave people answering to silence, do not redial the same number repeatedly in a day, and work lists people asked to be on. There is no switch that removes a label, which is why prevention is the only real answer.

Does this require special permissions?

Reading the call state and showing something during a call needs permissions on Android, and a tool should explain which ones and why at the moment it asks. Anything that asks for everything at install without explanation deserves suspicion.

What this rests on

  • The behaviour described is how caller identification works in Telodial, reading your own records rather than a shared database.
  • The causes of spam labelling described here are the ones that actually drive it for calling teams.

What this page does not claim

  • This is a page about our own feature. We do not operate a crowd-sourced identification database and make no claim to identify strangers.
  • We never ask a user to make Telodial the call-screening app on their phone, and this feature does not require it.

Worth quoting

  • Caller identification from your own records is right when it speaks and silent when it does not know.
  • Crowd-sourced caller ID is guesswork assembled from other people contact lists.
  • What matters on an incoming call is the stage and the last remark, not the name.
  • Spam labelling usually traces back to abandoned calls or repeated redialling of the same number.
  • No setting removes a spam label, which is why the only real answer is not earning one.
