Cold calling

The bought list cost you twelve thousand rupees and produced two conversations and one complaint.

Cold calling stopped paying before most teams noticed. Telodial cold calling software is built for the warm list you already own.

Your uncalled enquiries and your own lost leads convert several times better than anything you can buy, and neither carries the regulatory risk.

Free for 3 days, every feature, no card needed.

Does cold calling still work in India?

Far less well than it did, and for most businesses it is now the wrong place to spend a caller day. Answer rates on unfamiliar numbers have fallen, caller identification apps label unknown callers within days, and the regulator restricts unrequested promotional calling most tightly towards numbers on the preference register. Meanwhile nearly every business is sitting on enquiries it never called and leads it marked lost a year ago, both of which convert several times better and carry none of the risk. Cold calling software from Telodial is therefore built around the warm list rather than the bought one: it keeps every call on record, marks and honours a do-not-call request so it survives the next import, and works your own sources first. If you do call cold, doing it from a number you own with a written record of every attempt is the minimum defensible position.

  • Every call kept on record, with the outcome
  • Opt-outs survive the next list import
  • Your own enquiries worked before any bought list
  • Calls from a number your business owns
How it works

Cold calling, step by step

1

Count what you already have

Uncalled enquiries first, then leads marked lost for a reason that has since expired: price, timing, a product you did not stock then. That list is usually larger than anybody expects.

2

Work the warm list properly

Assigned to an owner, worked at hours people answer, with the outcome recorded so a second attempt knows what the first one found.

3

Record the opt-outs

A do-not-call request is marked on the record the moment it is made and excluded from every future list, including the one you import next month.

4

Keep the evidence

Every call, its time, its duration, who made it and what came of it. That set answers most questions anybody is likely to ask you afterwards.

When this is not what you need

If your plan is high-volume promotional calling into purchased databases, this is the wrong tool and we would rather say so. That work belongs on a cloud platform with the compliance apparatus around it, and the regulatory exposure sits with you either way.

What callers and owners tell us

I can see the gap between when a lead came in and when it was first called. That single column changed how my team works in the mornings.
Yogesh K.Founder, NashikJul 2026
I had written off our old enquiry list as dead. Filtering it and calling it back over two weeks brought in more than that month of new leads did.
Pramod S.Owner, flooring showroom, NashikAug 2026
The brochure goes out by itself the moment the call ends. My callers used to promise it on the call and send it at midnight, or not at all.

Questions

Cold calling: what people ask

Is cold calling legal in India?

Unrequested promotional calling is restricted, most strictly towards numbers registered on the preference list, and the obligation sits with the business placing the calls rather than with any software. Calling somebody who enquired with you is a different activity and is not what those rules were written about.

What converts better than a cold list?

Your own uncalled enquiries first, then your own lost leads, then referrals. All three start from a conversation the person already began, which is the hardest part of a sale and the part a bought list does not give you.

How do I honour a do-not-call request properly?

Mark it on the record the moment it is made so the number is excluded from every future list and campaign, and check the exclusion survives your next import. A request honoured once and lost on the next upload is worse than not recording it.

Does cold calling damage my number?

It can, and the damage is slow to reverse. Calls people did not expect, and the same number redialled repeatedly, are what teach caller identification apps to label a number. No setting removes a label once earned.

What records should I keep?

Every call with its time and duration, who made it, the outcome, and any request not to be contacted again. On a calling CRM that set is a by-product of working normally rather than extra effort.

Should I buy a lead list at all?

Rarely, and never before you have counted the enquiries you have not called. If you do, keep the list small enough to tell whether it works before you have spent your number reputation finding out.

Counting what you already own before buying strangers

Updated 8 August 2026

Three lists, in the order worth working them

Enquiries that came in and were never called.

Work these first, today. They asked to hear from you, the acquisition cost is already spent, and almost every business has more of them than anybody in the room will guess. This is the cheapest revenue available anywhere.

Leads marked lost for a reason that has expired.

Second. Lost on price in a month when prices have moved, or lost on timing six months ago, is a callable list. Lost with no reason recorded is a deleted lead, which is why the reason field matters.

A purchased database.

Last, and only if the first two are genuinely empty. Lower conversion, regulatory exposure that sits with you rather than the seller, and lasting damage to a number you cannot repair once caller identification apps have labelled it.

What people ask about cold calling tools

Is there software that makes cold calling work again?

No, and any vendor implying otherwise is selling you something. Software changes how fast you dial and how well you record; it does not change whether a stranger wants the call. What has moved against cold calling is answer rates, caller identification and the rules, and none of those is a software problem.

How many attempts before giving up on a cold lead?

Fewer than on a warm one, and decide the number in advance rather than case by case. Deciding as you go means the polite prospects get chased and the promising ones do not, which is exactly backwards.

Will cold calling get my number blocked?

It can, and the damage is slow to reverse. Calls people did not expect, and the same number dialled repeatedly, are what teach caller identification apps to label you. There is no setting that removes a label once it exists.

What should a cold call actually open with?

Why you are calling this person specifically. A caller who can name the reason sounds like a business; one who opens with a script about the product sounds like a list being worked, and people hang up on lists.

Can software keep me compliant?

It can hold the evidence and honour the exclusions, which is the part a tool can genuinely do. What it cannot do is carry the obligation. That sits with the business making the calls, whatever the vendor says on their pricing page.

What this page rests on

  • The regulatory position follows what the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India publishes on unsolicited commercial communication.
  • The ranking of lead sources reflects what Indian calling teams consistently report rather than published research.

What this page does not claim

  • Nothing here is legal advice, and the regulator own pages are the authority.
  • We make a tool for working leads you already hold, which is also the recommendation on this page.

The short version

  • Software changes how fast you dial and how well you record; it does not make a stranger want the call.
  • Uncalled enquiries and expired lost reasons both convert better than any purchased list.
  • A do-not-call request has to survive the next list import or it is not honoured.
  • No setting removes a spam label once caller identification apps have applied one.
  • The regulatory obligation sits with the business making the calls, never with the software vendor.
