TRAI
TRAI: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, which sets the rules for commercial calling and messaging, including the do-not-disturb regime and registration requirements.
Definitions checked 4 September 2026.
TRAI regulates telecom in India and, for a calling business, its most relevant work is the framework around unsolicited commercial communication: who may send promotional calls and messages, to whom, through what registered channels, and with what consent. The rules have tightened repeatedly, and the direction of travel is consistently towards more traceability of who sent what.
For a small calling team the practical reading is short. Call people who have a relationship with you or who enquired. Do not buy lists. Keep records of your calls, which a calling CRM produces automatically. Honour do-not-call requests immediately and permanently. Use registered channels for bulk promotional messaging rather than improvising with personal accounts.
None of this makes ordinary telecalling difficult. A business calling its own enquiries about their own enquiries is doing exactly what the framework contemplates. The rules bite on cold, bought, high-volume promotion, which is also the least effective way to sell.
